Nokia has for some time now been showing off the capabilities of its PureView 808, a 41-megapixel smartphone with considerable photo and video capturing prowess. The phone has been available for pre-order in a number of countries, and Nokia has talked up the phone’s impending launch worldwide, with the exception of the United States and Canada. Now, in an interview with PC Magazine, Nokia’s US president Chris Weber has revealed that the PureView 808 will indeed be coming to American shores, but details on its arrival remain sketchy.

Speaking with PC Magazine, Weber noted that the US customers will be soon be able to purchase the PureView, though it will not be picked up by any US carriers. The phone will be AT&T-compatible, and will be sold unlocked in the US.

The 41-megapixel camera on the PureView is capable of 1080p video and the phone records sounds as loud as 140dB without clipping and harsh noises. In addition to the camera, the phone features a 1.3GHz single-core ARM11 chip. The PureView is currently known to run Nokia’s soon to be defunct Symbian OS, but a job post discovered earlier this year hinted at the possibility of the PureView coming to Windows Phone. Electronista wenthands-on with the device, finding it potentially worthy of purchase, if only for the stunning camera, though the Symbian OS made for an awkward and crash-prone experience.
